Oderings and Herb Farm Trip

Yesterday we went to Oderings and Green Gold Herb Farm as part of our integrated topic learning.

We found out lots of interesting things and saw behind the scenes of both of these businesses.

At Oderings we learnt how to plant seeds correctly. We planted sweet pea seeds to take back to school. Then we each planted our own bulb, which we got to take home. Then we had a tour around the nursery and we saw all the machinery that plant seeds automatically.

At Green Gold Herb Farm we had a tour around all of their green houses. They trick their plants into thinking it is summer by heating up the water and the green house they are in. This means that their herbs can grow quicker. They provide restaurants around Christchurch with herbs.

Literacy Out Loud

This week Greg O'Connell came to Oaklands to provide some of our students with some Literacy Out Loud writing workshops.

On Tuesday all of the Year 3 and 4 classes got to have a session with him in the hall. We acted out some of his poems that he has published in the School Journals. The children enjoyed seeing all his poems come to life!
